The Border Mail hates blogging
It seems that Border Mail hack Brad Worrall has decided to have a sledge at all of the bloggers in this area, without having the guts to actually name any of the blogs which he’s degrading. Ray Dixon’s Alpine Opinion and Jack Stone’s Albury Wodonga Online both have a copy of the article and quite effective rebuttals, so I’ll leave that to them.
What I will say is that, for the past twelve months or so, a selection of News Ltd journos, most prominantly Dennis Shanahan, have been trying to discredit bloggers who disagree with them. Thus far the hacks have continually come off second best as well informed bloggers like Possum Comitatus have punched holes in their wobbly stats and analysis that borders on wish fulfilment. I hope Brad realises that his little spray will be seen by many, myself included, as an invitation to hold him and the paper he works for to the high journalistic standards he has trumpeted; I wonder if the Border Mail is really ready for that?

It’s hypocrisy for sure Dave. The BM likes to sensationalise as much as anybody else and have been known on frequent occasions not to get the full story. They also don’t seem to mind singling out individuals with big stories on what are really civil disputes. I’ve found Brad to be more objective than most reporters in the past and I just hope that now he’s been ‘promoted’ to his own weekly full page ‘wrap-up’ that he doesn’t continue to put out tripe like that article.

oh I’m sure the Border Mail can easily fill the requirements you mention Dave, all they have to do is stop pretending to be a newspaper and fill the whole content with sport.
It’s not that big a stretch, 3 quarters of the paper is sport already.

Don’t knock the MSM guys. Your critics are your best marketers. My stats went through the roof when the local News Lmt rag ran a similar article.

you know I was thinking about running an ad in the paper, or getting sued for libel, whichever’s cheaper.

Just put a small line add under “public notices” AWOL. It worked for me.

can you pay for it anonymously? by post using money order for instance?

I think so. In advance though, for obvious reasons.

Perhaps you should take him up on his offer and draft a ‘right of reply’ and seek publication in the Border Mail? If nothing else, his refusal to print would allow a trumpeting of his hypocrisy.

Couldn’t you have suggested that earlier in the week? It’s Friday for God’s sake man!

It’s because it is Friday that I’m spending the time posting.
